Mehiläinen’s work coaching services
Why see a work coach?
Providing timely support for work performance and work ability makes it easier to manage work ability-related risks. Timely measures help to prevent the loss of productivity, reduce sickness-related absences and prevent the increase of pension contributions. Our work coaches operate nationwide as part of Mehiläinen’s multidisciplinary occupational health care, as experts in the field of social services and as partners for insurers.
A social services expert can help you when:
- you need to think about the direction of your career for health reasons;
- you are considering career options from a motivational point of view or your employment relationship is about to end;
- you need information about part-time work opportunities;
- you need more information about vocational rehabilitation options;
- you need more information on matters related to making a living or forms of social security;
- you need help in filling in applications and forms.
Cooperation initiated in occupational health care often continues as a long-term productive process based on a vocational rehabilitation plan supported by an insurer.

Work coaching as part of occupational health care services
Work coaching is part of occupational health care services. The service offers guidance and counselling: information, practical guidance for continuing to work and advice on problems related to making a living. Guidance can focus on, for example, highlighting professional strengths, considering career options and the opportunities offered by social security to reach goals. Timely measures help to prevent the loss of productivity, reduce sickness-related absences and prevent the increase of pension contributions. The company is entitled to Kela reimbursement (KL1) when the service is part of the company’s action plan.
Work coach services that are part of occupational health care always start with a consultation request by an occupational health physician, occupational health nurse or occupational physiotherapist to a social services expert. The need may be brought up in occupational health care by the employee themselves or the suggestion may also come from the occupational health care team. The company’s HR department or the employee’s supervisor can also contact the occupational health care team to have the employee referred to a work coach if there is concern about the employee’s work performance or work ability.

Work coaches as partners and service providers of employee pension, traffic and accident insurance companies
Work coaching services provide vocational rehabilitation guidance services in accordance with the acts on employee pensions and the acts on traffic and accident insurance. During the service, we will plan, together with our customer, a realistic professional path for continuing to work that takes into account the customer’s overall situation. We will also support the customer during the implementation of the plan. The greatest competencies of work coaches are working with customers, working life, job descriptions, occupations, the education system and knowledge of the regional labour market and the necessary networks. Guidance is provided in a multi-channel manner that suits everyone’s situation. This includes visiting workplaces and educational institutions.
Guidance by a work coach can be provided when it has been decided that the customer will receive rehabilitation services and the insurance company is in favour of using guidance support. You can reach our work coaches by phone at 040 658 7933 or by email at tyovalmennuspalvelut@mehilainen.fi.
