Orthopaedic Manual Therapy
What is Orthopaedic Manual Therapy?
Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) is a field of physiotherapy that focuses on evaluating the individual’s well-being and physical condition, examining and performing therapy on the nerves, muscles and joints and preventing disorders through a variety of methods.
Ideal results are achieved in OMT through both manual procedures (and manipulation, if necessary) and active exercises. The aim of appropriate and individual guidance and independent exercises is to prevent and treat any problems with the musculoskeletal system. In addition, the examinations and therapy pay attention to each individual’s psychosocial and environmental background.
If the joints are hypermobile or uncontrollable, a variety of supportive procedures are applied (e.g. taping, cervical collars or support belts) and different exercises are performed to improve the control and muscle support. However, if the problem is due to excessive tension in the muscles, the aim is to find ways to relax the muscle and restoring its natural mobility. Irritation of the nerves can also be alleviated, and the recovery process can be accelerated with a variety of procedures and exercises.
The latest research data and strong clinical evidence are applied in the constant assessment and development of orthopaedic manual therapy.
