Mehiläinen's sustainability work receives highest platinum rating
11.12.2024
The international sustainability assessor EcoVadis has given Mehiläinen's sustainability work the platinum rating, which is the top rating. The assessment results improved from last year, particularly in terms of labour and human rights as well as ethics, raising Mehiläinen's rating from gold to platinum. Only the top 1% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis receive the platinum rating.
EcoVadis is one of the world's largest providers of business sustainability ratings. EcoVadis assesses sustainability in four areas: the environment and climate, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Mehiläinen's overall score increased from 75 to 84 points, out of a maximum of 100 points.
- We are very pleased that our long-term work to promote sustainability has produced results. The platinum rating we have now received encourages us to move forward in our sustainability work. The EcoVadis assessment also provided us with concrete recommendations that we will use in developing the various areas included in our sustainability work, says Kaisla Lahdensuo, Chief Medical Officer at Mehiläinen.
The biggest improvements in the assessment results were in labour and human rights as well as ethics. The improved results were influenced by factors such as the human rights impact assessment carried out in social services, the ISO 27001 standard granted to Mehiläinen's subsidiary BeeHealthy thanks to its comprehensive information security management system and the recognition Mehiläinen has received for its employer brand and culture. Mehiläinen's environmental and climate work and sustainable procurement received the highest overall scores in the assessment. The good result was supported by Mehiläinen's commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The assessment highlighted, among other things, the coverage of Mehiläinen's environmental measures and certifications throughout the company's operations.
- We are currently updating our sustainability programme for 2025–2030, and we will closely monitor the programme's implementation using a comprehensive set of indicators. This year, we also prepared science-based emission reduction targets. Their approval process is ongoing. In the area of social sustainability, we will expand our human rights impact assessment to include our private and public health services next year. In addition, we are focusing on implementing sustainability reporting in accordance with new obligations, says Petri Leiponen, Mehiläinen's Medical Director, Administration.
Mehiläinen's sustainability programme consists of four business-critical areas: quality and customer satisfaction, innovation and financial responsibility, employee well-being and being a good employer as well as sustainable development of operations.
