The pediatricians of Children’s Mehiläinen now make house calls in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen) on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. House calls are suitable for treating all kinds of health problems that the little patient might have. On a case-by-case basis, the pediatrician always assesses if a remote phone consultation is enough for treatment or if a house call is needed. If necessary, the doctor provides treatment instructions and/or makes a house call appointment for making examinations, taking laboratory samples or providing acute medical care.

Doctor’s protective measures during a house call
For every house call, the doctor’s minimum protection level is a surgical mouth-nose mask and thorough hand disinfection before and after the house call. Furthermore, in case of respiratory infection patients, the doctor wears disposable protective clothing (a surgical mouth-nose mask, gloves, protective head wear, a medical gown and a visor) that are disposed of after every patient. This ensures that the spread of infection is prevented, both from the patient to the doctor and the doctor to the patient.

House call fees and invoicing
The fee for a doctor’s remote consultation by phone is based on time (10 or 20 minutes) and corresponds with the doctor’s normal appointment pricing. The fee for a house call considered necessary on the basis of the doctor’s assessment is based on time (the duration of the house call) and on whether the patient is an infection patient. Depending on the duration of the house call, the price is approximately EUR 250–350. Laboratory expenses resulting from the taking of samples and medication expenses are charged according to the actual expenses. Invoices are sent by mail after the house call.
You can apply for house call compensation from your insurance company. Direct compensation is not possible for house calls. The insurance company decides if compensation is available for the house call according to the insurance terms and conditions. If you are not certain whether your insurance policy covers a doctor’s house call, contact your insurance company to ask about compensation.
