Mehiläinen expands its digital services in Germany – Digital Clinic available to all German patients
Press Release, April 4 2024
Mehiläinen's German subsidiary, Meliva, is expanding its digital services. Digital Clinic, operating within the Meliva app, is now available to all patients covered by statutory health insurance in Germany.
Germany is Europe's largest healthcare market. Also in Germany, the healthcare market is driven by various global trends, such as an ageing population, chronic diseases as well as technological trends such as digitalization. The funding of the healthcare system is secured through Germany’s publicly funded health insurance. In addition, privately insured patients play an important part as a customer segment.
- The expansion of digital services is a significant step for us. The service was previously available to self-paying customers, and we are extremely proud that we can now offer high-quality digital healthcare to all patients through the Meliva app. This expansion enables equal access to quality healthcare regardless of the place of residence, says Dr. Gerald Loos, CEO of Meliva Germany.
- Our goal is to build an integrated and comprehensive healthcare service platform in Germany, similar to Mehiläinen in Finland. It includes a mobile application comparable to Finnish OmaMehiläinen, and a seamlessly connected brick-and-mortar clinic network covering all specialties, says Anssi Hartiala, Managing Director of Private Healthcare Services at Mehiläinen.
Through the Meliva app, patients in Germany can now contact a physician via chat and video consultations. The app also handles prescriptions and referrals. In Germany, the Meliva app also offers digital coaching programmes and care pathways to support lifestyle changes.
Meliva has been operating in outpatient healthcare services in the German market since 2021. It has 15 medical clinics across the country, as well as a small hospital specialising in orthopedic surgeries.
