Adding a family member to your account in OmaMehiläinen
Easily access your own and your family members’ health information in one place.
You can add family members to your profile in the OmaMehiläinen app or the online service. This allows you to book appointments for your child or other family members, renew their prescriptions, view their test or examination results or, for example, use Digital Clinic on their behalf.
We use a structured assessment model of an underage patient’s decision-making capacity, in which a healthcare professional assesses separately for each service event whether the minor is mature enough to decide on the disclosure of the information to the guardian.
If the family profile addition was made before September 2023, all previous service events will continue to be visible to the guardian. New service events will be visible to the guardian in accordance with the assessment of the underage patient’s decision-making capacity and the consent given by them.
In terms of minors under the age of 18, we always check the guardianship information from the Population Information System. When the minor reaches the age of 18, the parent’s right to view the information expires automatically.
Instructions for creating a family profile
Guardians can add children aged under 12 to their family profile without separate consent. Adding a family member requires a personal identity code and the availability of guardianship information in the Population Information System. For this reason, for example, it is not possible to add newborns to the family profile.
Adding a family member to your profile:
- OmaMehiläinen app: Me menu -> “Family members”.
- OmaMehiläinen web service: left side menu -> “Family”
Adding a family member aged 12–17 to your family profile always requires written consent. If the family member was added before the age of 12, no written consent is required.
Giving consent:
- Fill out the consent form for family profile additions (PDF) together.
- The signatures of both the minor and the guardian are required for a family profile addition.
- The form can be delivered to the nearest Mehiläinen location, or you can scan it and send it via secure mail to: perheliitos@mehilainen.fi.
- We will check the guardianship information from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
- The family profile addition process takes about one business day.
- The consent form can also be completed at a Mehiläinen location.
When the minor turns 18, they will be removed from the family profile, and the guardian’s right to view any previous information will expire automatically. If they so wish, family members aged over 18 can send and accept requests to be added to a family profile from their own profile. This process does not require completing a form.
Sending the form using secure mail
The family profile addition form contains personal data, so we recommend sending it via secure mail:
- Log in at https://secure.mehilainen.fi
- Enter your email address in the “From” field and click Continue
- On the next page, click Register
- You will receive an email with the subject line “Registration”. At the end of the message, you will see a link where you can attach the completed family consent form for adding the child to your family profile and send the message to perheliitos(at)mehilainen.fi.
