Medical expertise
Medical expertise is taken into account at all levels of our management system and in the development of operations. In addition, we invest in competent nursing staff and modern digital tools.
- Our medical activities are based on evidence-based medicine. This requires continuous monitoring of medical developments, training and the application of new treatment practices and methods in Mehiläinen. Our doctors follow the development of medicine by participating in national and international congresses and Mehiläinen's own training events. Mehiläinen also conducts medical research as part of the continuous development of quality care.
- Doctors in Mehiläinen have access to extensive medical databases, electronic Käypä hoito recommendationsExternal link, drug interaction databases and access to electronic versions of several international medical scientific journals. The digital tools we have developed for professionals also make it possible to enhance the quality of operations.
Mehiläinen is constantly developing patient safety
- Hygiene work and the prevention of hospital infections have long been our central areas of development in all units. The hygiene nurse and infectious disease doctor are responsible for the development. The number of hospital infections can withstand critical national and international scrutiny.
- We invest in medication safety with several development projects. All our units have medication treatment plans that define the training requirements related to medication and our way of acting in treatment events.
- Our various operating processes have been analyzed from the perspective of patient safety, and device safety is monitored in accordance with the instructions of authorities and device manufacturers. Mehiläinen has functioning reporting and analysis systems in case of suspected patient harm and near-miss situations.
- Mehiläinen's patient contact persons act as liaisons for Mehiläinen's clients in matters related to patient rights and potential dissatisfaction with care, such as suspected harm, complaints, grievances, or compensation claims. They also advise clients on the activities and contact information of patient and social affairs representatives in wellbeing regions, aiming to consider the client's needs individually.
Feedback on treatment and treatment processes
The ideal treatment path is based on trust between the client and the doctor. According to a survey conducted at the end of 2016 for Mehiläinen Asiakasraati (in Finnish), the ideal treatment path seems to be implemented quite well at the moment.
Together with our customers, we develop treatment processes and patient safety. Mehiläinen's customer can report what he observes during the treatment process. In exceptional situations or "near misses", we collect all feedback easily and in real time using a digital feedback channel.
