Tooth jewellery application
Tooth jewellery application in a nutshell
- Tooth jewellery is applied to the surface of the tooth by using filling material without the need for drilling.
- Tooth jewellery application requires an intact tooth and a healthy mouth.
- Purchase a tooth jewel of your choosing from a jewellery store before your appointment.
Preparing for tooth jewellery application
It is important to prepare for your tooth jewellery appointment. Purchase a tooth jewel of your choosing in advance from a jewellery store and bring it with you to your appointment. Pay attention to the quality and shape of the jewellery.
It is also important to note that tooth jewellery should only be attached to an intact tooth, provided that the mouth is healthy. We recommend regular dental check-ups with dentists and dental cleaning appointments with dental hygienists.
Tooth jewellery application at a dental hygienist’s appointment
Tooth jewellery application is a quick and safe procedure performed by a dental hygienist. Tooth jewellery is applied to the surface of the tooth with a filling material that does not damage the enamel.
Here is how the application proceeds
First, the dental hygienist checks that your mouth is healthy and that the application of tooth jewellery will cause no harm.
The dental hygienist carefully cleans the surface of the tooth where the jewellery will be placed. This will help the jewellery remain in place.
The dental hygienist attaches the jewellery you have purchased to the surface of the tooth with the same filling material that is also used to repair teeth. The filling material is cured with a special blue light.
The dental hygienist will advise you on aftercare once the tooth jewellery has been applied. Good oral self-care will continue to be important to keep the jewellery and the surrounding area clean.
Taking care of tooth jewellery
It is important to maintain good oral hygiene after getting tooth jewellery. Thoroughly clean the area around the tooth jewellery twice a day while brushing your teeth to prevent plaque build-up and staining.
Aftercare instructions:
- Do not eat immediately after getting tooth jewellery. You can drink water normally.
- Avoid hard foods for the first 12 hours.
- Do not brush your teeth for the next 12 hours.
- If you have an electric toothbrush, do not use it for the first 24 hours.
Removing tooth jewellery
Tooth jewellery usually remains in place for years but can easily be removed at a dental hygienist’s appointment. The removal process is also quick and safe. After removal, the tooth is polished, and the tooth jewellery leaves no marks on the tooth.

The backside of the tooth jewellery also affects the application. A roughened backside is easier to apply than a smooth one.
Tooth jewellery is applied to the surface of the tooth. It can be attached to any tooth, but most commonly it is placed on the front teeth. Tooth jewellery is applied to the surface of the tooth with the same plastic material that is used to repair teeth.
